BRÓD BOOKS & RESOURCES
Child-friendly stories and practical resources for talking about feelings, relationships, separation, grief and change.
RESOURCES THAT HELP CONVERSATIONS BEGIN
Children do not always have the words to explain what is happening inside them.
Bród books and resources provide gentle and accessible ways for children and the adults around them to begin important conversations.
The stories introduce difficult experiences through Bród’s journey, while the accompanying tools help children identify feelings, recognise support and express what matters to them.
IT’S NOT FAIR: BRÓD’S JOURNEY THROUGH THEIR PARENTS’ BREAK-UP
It’s Not Fair follows Bród as they experience their parents’ separation and the difficult feelings and changes that follow.
The story helps children understand that:
• parental separation is an adult decision;
• the separation is not the child’s fault;
• difficult and mixed feelings are understandable;
• children should not be placed in the middle of adult conflict;
• families can change while children continue to be loved;
• safe and supportive adults can help.
THE BRÓD WORKBOOK
The accompanying workbook provides structured opportunities for children to explore the themes introduced in It’s Not Fair.
Activities support conversations about:
• feelings;
• family change;
• what children need;
• Safety Friends;
• worries and questions;
• coping and regulation;
• feeling Happy, Healthy, Safe and Loved.
The workbook should be used at the child’s pace. Children should not be pressured to complete an activity or share information before they feel ready.
I WASN’T READY TO SAY GOODBYE: BRÓD’S JOURNEY WITH SADNESS (coming Oct 26)
In this story, Bród experiences the death of a much-loved pet and begins to understand grief, sadness and remembrance.
The book helps children recognise that grief can involve many different feelings and that there is no single correct way to say goodbye.
It includes gentle ideas for remembering someone or something that has died, including creating a memory book, making a comfort stone and writing a letter.
BRÓD COMFORT RESOURCES
Bród comfort resources are designed to support connection and conversation.
Depending on the product, they may offer:
• a familiar character to hold during difficult conversations;
• a visual reminder of the four Bród foundations;
• simple tools for drawing or writing;
• a small object associated with comfort and connection;
• prompts that help children identify feelings and supportive adults.
Products should be presented as supportive educational resources rather than as medical, diagnostic or therapeutic devices.
USING THE RESOURCES SAFELY
Bród resources can support direct work and family conversations, but they do not replace professional assessment or specialist intervention.
Adults should:
• follow the child’s pace;
• avoid pressuring the child to disclose information;
• explain the purpose of an activity;
• respond calmly when difficult feelings arise;
• take safeguarding concerns seriously;
• seek appropriate professional support when needed.
